CBC RECEIVES 95 2014 CANADIAN SCREEN AWARD NOMINATIONS (press release)

CBC received 95 nominations this morning from the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television’s 2014 Canadian Screen Awards – 89 for CBC Television and six for Digital Media, further attesting to CBC’s line up of quality and original Canadian programming. CBC programs, talent and crew were all nominated in categories across the board for Canada’s most prestigious television, film and digital awards ceremony.

Peters and Hotz developing shows for Comedy Network

Canadian funnymen Russell Peters, Jeremy Hotz and Tim Steeves are among the homegrown comics working on projects for the Comedy Network.

The joke-driven specialty channel says possible TV ventures include a Christmas special from Peters featuring stand-up, sketch, animation and musical performances.

Steeves is working on a proposed weekly series that would review events, newsmakers and cultural trends that have irritated and intrigued him.

Even comics fall victim to mush

Tim Steeves took the biggest professional and personal risk of his life last summer. During a gala performance at the Just for Laughs festival on July 19, he got down on one knee on the Théâtre St. Denis stage, faced the audience and beckoned his girlfriend, Sonya.

Buyting, to join him. Although clearly startled, Buyting obliged, whereupon Steeves pulled a ring from his pocket and proposed marriage to her – in front of 2,000 strangers.
